During my one-day stay, I got a glimpse of what this motel is like, but I reckon my opinion might've changed if I stayed longer. If you're not expecting a fancy hotel experience, this place might be for you. Personally, I'm not too picky about comfort , but the bathroom in my room was neglected and dirty. The room itself was alright, though, clean enough for a night's sleep. The folks at the front desk weren't exactly the friendliest people, but if that matters to you, you might want to stay at a higher-priced hotel. Being close to the airport was a plus for me, perfect for resting after a long trip. If you are staying longer, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you're okay with basic accomodations and just need a place to crash for a couple of days, this coud work for you.

Disclaimer: I know this is a hostel. I didnt expect 5 star. Front desk staff were like robots, bordering rude and disinterested. Cut me off with things like “you can’t checkin until 3pm” when I went to checkin at the front desk, without even checking my booking to see I had paid for an early checkin. Room was as expected for a hostel, but definitely not perfectly clean by any stretch. Pillows were abhorrent, pieces of fluff floating here and there in a pillow case and the towels were only slightly larger than hand towels and thin, so bring your own! There was heating, but we were still cold at night and needed to sleep in tracksuits and socks and just felt uncomfortable. We were put in a building across from the main one, so it meant if we needed to go into the main building and use washing machines or boil water in kitchen for a cup of tea, we had to cross a car park. This car park had Groups of men smoking and drinking at night and felt very unsafe to cross at night if you are a woman traveller! This was not disclosed to me at time of booking. The cherry on top was the guest kitchen. Make no mistake, this was FOUL. It stunk, looked like it had not been cleaned in a year ( and smelt like it too) one small fridge for an entire hostel. It was tiny. No facilities, I saw someone asking for cooking items at the front desk and they were given a plastic container with a few items. This was all they had for an entire hostel. They should not even advertise this as a facility or give prior warning of the size and items available to cook with. We did not eat the breakfast there, due to the ridiculous cost, yet this looked like a reasonably nice and clean area . The guest kitchen is obviously a way for them to get people to pay for their breakfast there as there is just no way you could go and cook yourself a breakfast, and not anywhere to sit and eat it. I wish I’d taken photos just to show how much I am not exaggerating my review of this kitchen. The only thing I was impressed with was the washing machines and dryers which are done through an app and you can see if they are free, reserve and hold one for 10 mins, pay via credit card and see when it’s finished, all through the app. We cancelled our next a&o hostel stays at other cities as we were just so disappointed and angry with what we paid and what we got. We managed to get stays at hotels for the same price, so it’s definitely not a cheap option for what you get!

Stayed for 2 nights in November, 2023. Single room/private bathroom. Very clean. Quiet overnight in my area. Terrible/old pillow but the staff kindly gave me a new one. I have no concerns with previous reviews - the wifi worked well. Good location - walked to the main train station before 8am with no safety concerns. Right on a tram line but I didn’t use it. Grocery store nearby. Helpful staff. For the price point of ~$65 CAD per night, I wasn’t expecting fancy and my needs were met.

STAY AWAY!! I booked a room with a private bathroom at the A&O Hotel Frankfurt Galluswarte and paid before arriving. When I arrived at the hotel, they gave me a room. When I went to the room, I saw that the room had been used by someone else before and the toilet was unusable (clogged). I told the hotel staff, the toilet was clogged. They couldn't open the toilet. I asked for another room, but they couldn't give me another room because the hotel was full. As a result, I was not given a room with the features I paid for. It was late at night. (It was about 02:00 AM ). I had to go to another hotel. I had to pay much more money to the other hotel. I tried to get my money back, but they did NOT pay also.

If I must summarize my stay at this place in one word, it’s – ghastly. Now I’m under no disillusion that I’ve booked to stay 4 nights in a hostel and wasn’t expecting 5-star hotel standards. But I was benchmarking my stay at YHA youth hostels that I’m familiar with. And it’s truly ghastly. Check in experience: They send you an email to ask you to submit your personal information and check in online. I did that. Yet when I turned up, the front desk has no record of my submitted details and asked me to fill in a paper form all over. If information is already submitted digitally, why fill in a redundant form? A disjointed experience. Room booking: Originally booked single room with shared bathroom. Was originally given room 546 and reception asked me to use the lift in the same building to head to level 5. But the rooms all end with 40, no 46 to be seen! Went down to reception. Was then told by someone else that room 546 is located the annexed Building C across the courtyard. Went there but the room keycard wouldn’t open the entrance to that building! Traipsed back to reception. This time was “upgraded” to room 522 within the same building – a double bed room with ensuite bathroom. Room condition: This is undeniably the dirtiest room I’ve ever had the misfortune to stay in. Curtains with broken hanging bits that dangle limp at the side. Worst of all, the surfaces – floor, bed frames, balcony ledge, under the bed – all looked like they’ve not been wiped for absolutely ages. I took a few pieces of tissue, wet them with water, and started to wipe some of the surfaces. The tissues immediately turned black – collected lots of dust, hair, dental floss, and other dirt. See my pictures as evidence. You’ll puke. No aircon: Be aware there is no aircon on the room floors and in the room. When the outside temperature was 22C to 25C, and the sun was shining in, this made the room boiling hot and stuffy. You can go to reception to borrow a fan (have to put down EUR20 as deposit, you’d get it back when you return the fan) but it’s nowhere near enough. Guest kitchen: This is a basic shoe-box room in the basement with a portable induction stove with 2 hobs, a tiny microwave, a sink, and a fridge – shockingly that’s it. No proper cooking utensils and cutlery are provided. Whatever’s left on the dish rack are mish-mash things that presumably previous residents have left behind – two saucepans, whatever's left of a pot with no handle, a pair of tongs, and some leftover plates and cutlery taken from the breakfast room next door. To call this a guest kitchen (at YHA standards) is an embarrassment! Wifi: On my second last morning, I woke up around 6 am and found the wifi not working. Went down to reception at 8 am, and asked if they were aware. The person said yes, but no one from their wifi provider had responded to them. Even when I returned at 2 pm after walking around Frankfurt, the wifi still had not been restored. It eventually was restored by 6:30 pm – yes, ridiculously, a full working day without wifi! Working space: There’s a long table at the lobby area where you may bring your laptop down and do some work. But that space has two major issues. Mosquitoes abound – I was bitten on my feet area and developed allergic swelling all around. And it’s located close to the main door where the idiotic management decided it’s a good idea to place two bins there as designated areas for smokers, so whenever there’s someone smoking there, the wind may waft the smoke directly into the lobby area. Will I ever return to this hostel? Never in a million years. As this is my first A&O experience, and judging by the experiences of other travellers at other hostels - I'd safely say I'm never staying at any of the A&O chain again.
